I'm planning to convert a Buccaneer 18 or Coronado 15 into a sportboat configuration with a lead bulb on keel strut replacing the centerboard. Can anyone direct me to plans for building a daggerboard type keel trunk strong enough to handle the loads produced by the lead bulb (probably 200 to 250 lbs. of lead) and a board three to five feet long. Also I'm looking for ways of building a keel lifting mechanism- perhaps the crane type used on an Ultimate 20 or a boom or mast mounted lifting mechanism.
The second question involves the strut or daggerboard. How does one go about building a solid unidirectional glass board strong enough to handle the loads and how do you get the right shape? Thanks, Burt
