    Hello,I am looking at buying a 2002 Tohatsu outboard,Model,-M30A4/346B.
Looking at the reviews they sound pretty reliable.
Has anyone got any comments on them?
It is a long leg model. My present engine is a shortshaft (15" to 16")
The present engine lines up perfectly with the cavitation plate.
Would the extra leg length be detremental to performance?
I am not looking for speed, just to use it for fishing inshore waters.
My boat is a 14' open boat with steering and two seats, and a decent planing hull.(f/glass)

On a boat that small and light, yes, the difference will be noticeable. But it doesn't have to be a show stopper. You can kick the motor under a few degrees (with a wedge, if necessary), and raise the mount a couple inches with a shim. The good news is you have more swing height between full up and full down if you keep the wedge to just a few degrees, and that is often nice to have. Raising the mount can help with tiller steering as well.

Thanks for the advice PS,I think I could raise the transom a couple of inches without too much of a problem.
