Hello, I am going to try to restore a 65 chris craft cavalier30'. I want to strip the plywood hull and recoat it. Do i strip it to the wood or the paper coating?
What would be the best way to do this. Any help would be great.
    Thanks Dave

We stripped my 69 cavalier to the paper with a chemical stripper for epoxy/paint and flat blade scapers. It took a couple of coats to remove the marine paint. I didn't do it but it looked like alot of work. The transom is not paper covered plywood (mine was painted). If i can help lemeno.

Note: This week i'll be fiberglassing the cabintop.

Hey thanks for the reply. What do you think of that cpes stuff? Or is that over rated. The boat is very solid. i just have to fix a couple spots.
    Thanks Dave

    No Problem, anytime.

I couldn't say either way about cpes. I've been using laquer thinner up to 100% added to the resin/hardener mix. This is with the 150 grade resin at a 1:1 ratio. Just for treating...not glueing. I read extensively on the internet and this is what i ended up using.

Solid boat. Yes. I've been out in some heavy weather with mine and was pleased so far. I particularly like surfing with her on a following sea.

Have you started the refinishing yet? How's the transom ? Best.
