Energy plan video

A video recently came out on TED with an energy plan for 2050:

There a few points I disagree with the speaker, but overall I did find the ideas quite interesting.

Too bad new materials, "lighter weight" and "smarter" can't do much for cruisers on the water as for cars and trucks. Or ...

 

He has no idea. The blase way he redesigns all modern car plants to handle composites - not an easy transition, and by no means problem free.

 

I haven't seen it - lack of bandwidth - but still, why would Amory Lovins be right? Unless he's learnt some science and humility over the years, which I suppose is possible. Atypical, but possible.

I recall at least 1 article by him in 'Mother Earth News' making predictions that turned out to be completely wrong, and doing it with great certainty. Those old magazines are a treasure trove for stuff like that. As there are also lots of good practical 'how to do it' articles, I still have my collection.
