    The insurers can deduct the items from their payment if he wants them unless the salvagers have a contract that they own everything they salvage, in that case the original owner has to buy the items he wants from the salvagers which he can do with the money from the insurers.

    Astrid was being moved between harbors. Expecting the captain to achieve that without being "close to shore" at some time seems unreasonable.

    It looks like it was probably pretty corroded before it was drove into trouble.

    From 30:34 to 39:15 it has the Captain's story about Astrid's sinking.

    In short, a total engine room black out in a lee shore situation.

    Good story but aweful web page; kept getting other stuff over the top, had to restart it several times before I could read the full story . . .

    Well now, let's cut those Irish web developers some slack. Drinking & writing web pages gets more difficult as time goes on don't you know. ;)

    Always sad to see a tall ship go down, but very happy to see it raised from the abyss for rework. Hopefully the Astrid will sail again (excellent for history & tourism).

    Tall ship blasphemy! :mad:

    They should have drained the fuel & engine oil, then just left it as a reef. Would be great for fish & scuba divers.

    A report has been released on the loss of the 'Astrid'. The report lists the main cause of the grounding is that the ship was not operated in a safe manner in compliance with the International Conventions.
