What is your technical or engineering background? That would help on what level of material to guide you to.

    +1 re Gonzo's comment above.

I see that you have a university in Bangladesh offering a course in naval architecture - would this be of interest to you?
BSMRMU:::Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University https://bsmrmu.edu.bd/content/bsc-in-naval-architecture-and-offshore-engineering

Or you could try signing up for a correspondence (by email) course in boat design - here is a typical example
    Yacht Design School http://www.macnaughtongroup.com/school.htm

And here is another online course in yacht design - Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology https://westlawn.edu/

Thank you for your valuable response.

Actually it's not about courses, I want to be a naval architect from scratch, and I am ready to invest my whole time badly in it.

But I feel so alone like I have none to assist in client managements, team works, or even finding clients etc.

When I found this forum, I am so hopeful that I will find at least one individual/team who can give me a full time career opportunity from scratch!

You know the situation of a newbie, right?

I am still hopeful to find someone, and being an naval architect is something like my breathes now.

Please assist me in this regard.

    Best,
    Sumaiya

Hello Sumaiya - I am confused.

Do you already have a qualification in naval architecture?

If you do not, you cannot just become a naval architect overnight - it takes years of learning along with practical experience before you can truthfully call yourself a naval architect.

Are you looking for somebody to sponsor / pay you to learn to be a naval architect?

If this is the case, then maybe you could apply to a shipyard in Bangladesh to see if you can join one of their training programmes where you start off as an apprentice?

You are really so helpful! Thank you so much!

Actually, I know that initial expertise is mandatory like learning, initial projects, etc.

And currently I am learning the initial phases and will work on initial projects soon!

Now, as I want to be a freelance/remote naval architect, and as global marketplace is really so crowded, I want someone who will believe me from my very first steps, and once I am good as a beginner naval architect, he/she will consider as a junior architect.

I just one someone who will assist me as my mentor to grow my path from the very first steps. I don’t want any sponsorship, rather, I want someone who just knows me, trusts me, and once I am capable of, he/she will consider me for design projects.

I am so alone in this regard.

I hope you understand what I just said.

Thank you so much, at least you responded. I am really so happy talking to you!

You should start with the basic courses: Calculus, hydrodynamics, statics, mechanic of materials, electrical systems, CADD, thermodynamics, physics and at least basic chemistry. That will give you the background to understand the fundamentals. Have you already taken any of those?

Yes, I am taking the all necessary courses I need! I am learning everyday! And I will work on my initial projects soon!

To be a freelance NA you need to first build a reputation. The market is pretty saturated, so you would need to have something very different or successful in some respect. For example, if you design and build a race boat that wins, there will be people willing to buy the design. Being self taught will make harder too. Did I misundertand and you are going to a school for Naval Architecture? For example, I have a degree in mechanical engineer and a long list of technical certificates. Most jobs require that I send a copy of them before they even consider hiring me. You say you are learning the initial phase and will work in projects soon. Does this mean you are already working at a Naval Architecture office? If you are, that will let you build a portfolio of work to show prospective customers.

As an experienced one, you have already got some points about me that I am a self-taught NA who is sharping my initial knowledge currently.

As a passionate one, I hope to work in sample/initial projects soon.

And I am still not in any NA job.

But I am in search of someone who can put me a little place beside him so that once I am ready for regular projects, I can work as a coworker with him. (Maybe sounds like a dream!)

I am explaining like this so that you somehow understand me.

Have you applied to work with any naval architects or shipyards in Bangladesh?

They would be the logical first place to start looking for job experience and training.

Ok, I hope this isn't a total waste of time, but I think it's worth a try. I have a project for a flat boat, about 4 or 5 m long. What could you do working as a coworker with me?

To be a NA it requires a degree from a university. Depending on where you live there are also requirements to be licensed. You can be a self-taught designer though, but it makes the plan even harder.

This gets back to the degree requirements. I can't think of any place that would hire someone without it. It is hard to face reality when it does not go along with your dreams. I hope you can make it though.

    Dear TANSL,

Apologies for the delayed response. I'm based in Bangladesh, so there may be a slight time difference in my replies.

Thank you for considering me for this project. As a beginner Naval Architect, I'm eager to contribute and learn through hands-on experience. Here's what I can bring to the table as a coworker:

    1. Design Collaboration: I can assist in the initial design phases, including hull form analysis, stability calculations, and optimizing the boat’s shape for performance and safety.

    2. Technical Drafting: Using software like AutoCAD or similar tools, I can create detailed technical drawings that align with your vision for the flat boat.

    3. Material Selection Assistance: I can help in researching and proposing suitable materials for construction, considering both durability and cost.

    4. Problem Solving: As I am working on my own learning projects, I am accustomed to addressing design challenges creatively and will bring a fresh perspective to the project.

Please let me know how you'd like to proceed. I'm excited to collaborate on this project and contribute as much value as possible.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

    Best regards,
    Sumaiya
