Modular pontoon couplings

Hi All,

can anybody advise how to design modular pontoon couplings?
Or Please suggest me any reference documents or rules?

What is the application? For example, this could be to make a pontoon boat and they are suppose to create a long rigid log. It could also be a floating dock, where they are hinged and allowed to move up and down.

 

I've never seen a floating dock formed by hinged pontoons. I think it's crazy, but maybe I'm wrong because today you can never say "this is impossible".

 

It is a standard floating dock design. It is also commonly used on floating breakwaters.

 

I see. I may not have the same idea of you on what a floating dock.
Floating breakwaters need to be articulated but I think a floating dock must be rigid.

We designed a series of floating pontoons for Pool harbour in the UK. These are all hinged together to allow free movement of the pontoon as a wave passes. the hinged joint simply takes a reaction load, thus no bending = less structure = less weight = cheaper to build.
