Anyone following the developments in laser welding?

A video about laser welding appeared in my youtube feed and it certainly looks like the way to go for aluminium boat building now - much faster and much less heat used. Is anyone else following the latest developments? If you search youtube for laser welding and only look at the videos made in the last six months you will see all the latest developments - certainly looks like a game changer!
