You carry fresh water because its precious and vital to the success of a cruise...when you find a water source you fill up to the max.

Watermakers to top up small volume tanks dont work...they needs deisel fuel and consumes to much generator electric output.

Unfortunly water ballast adds very little righting moment, but it adds displacement. You must overcome this added weight with more sailpower or diesel fuel.

To perform well you add righting moment with lead and carry additional fw tankage... to improve the quality of life.. Tankage placed high..under the sheer clamp or in way of the chainplates consumes no preciuos bilge space and adds a substantial water bonus

Seawater ballast has no place on a yacht.

BTW i forgot to post [ sailboats .. Roman Empire ]

about my outrigger ballast , 3000# of

seawater gulped up , at speed , to change tack .

I need help to complete the 120' very fast boat .

Ive spent $150k and little to show ! except the 10 Honda

DOHC low compression engines ( 1500 HP ) and ball bearings ,

1/2 , 7/16 bolts , and MIG welders and wire , and dom steel tube

for prop shafts and light spars , and SS cable .. chain hoists ,

grinders , drills and , it fits in a small space !

I have been working toward this goal for 20 years ,

its quite hostile in the US except on some quite coast lines ,

Mexico is best to start a boat , we dont pay income taxes

they must pay , its not commercial ...

We merely say " i dont have the money " and they

    stop asking ..

I read Marco Polo adventures ( Asia ) , i want to do same !

I have 5 years in Thailand . No one bothers ANYONE in Asia

Not even Immigration ! I flew to Thailand many times , trying

for a non-immigrant visa , as they were tightning up , they

refused me 3 times , so i gave up .

Started to dream on a 120' outrigger planing hull .

    Do you dream also ?
