All Electric Commuter Ferry

I haven't managed to find any specifics but this looks interesting. Electric catamaran ferry.

I live part-time in Wellington, NZ where this new vessel will operate. Wellington is famous for its wind. The harbour can get extremely rough. The company already operates two catamarans on the harbour.

The ferry will have a hull design different to conventional diesel-powered vessels, with a displacement hull made from flat carbon fibre panels and only the lower hulls needing moulding.​

I'll be interested in what the hull looks like.

 

In Finland, an electric commuter ferry, Elektra is operated since 2018. On-board batteries can deliver 1 MW , they are plug to the electrical network during the embarkment /disbarkment times to be maintained in charge. The crossing is about 1 Mile. A Diesel is also on board for safety and to deliver more propulsion power when the sea is icy in winter. Solar panels help provide power for the electronic devices of the ferry.

The Wellington electric ferry has an 11 km route, across exposed waters. It's supposed to be able to do 3 or 4 return trips per charge.
