Maybe I haven't gone back far enough in to the archives, but so far I haven't been able to find a post that deals specifically with aluminium spars.

I was fascinated to read the information on extrusions in this section.

I am trying to source a mast section for a friend in China. Unfortunately his rig fell over the side and circumstances did not allow for its recovery.

I see some of you guys already have experience in this field. Anyone aware of a source for mast extrusions in China?

I am also playing with idea of suggesting a junk rig to him as an alternative solution and the possibility of a prefabricated tapering mast section, for instance as used in lighting gantries, has also occurred to me.

The possibility of using a welded tube seems to be suggested by Michael Kasten for use with his designs (one of which does sport a junk rig). But I couldn't find any of the specifics on his website.

Ideally we can find a standard mast section from which we can then build a new rig.

The boat is approximately 30 feet, but the original rig was cut down somewhat (the design was in fact scaled up, and the rig cut down as well).

The rig was originally very underpowered and inefficient (hence the need for it to go, enhanced by the quick release hook ends on the rigging screws....)

    Any suggestions would be welcome.

an Aussie guy gets them made there for very little
    he guards the source carefully
if you google dave lambert brisbane he may have a website, maybe not, and seeing as you are in China he may tell you which factory he deals with

You can try to contact them. But I don't think they would just make you one mast. Good Luck!
