    Hi

I have got tooling that is not 100% airtight, flanges etc.

I am planning on applying gelcoat to the mould and a layer of 3/4 oz CSM. after that has cured another two layers of 1 oz CSM.

The big question is how well will this layup seal the tooling when infusing?

    Nic

it seems that you are working on one off mold.
I was building 100 feet cruiser, the mold was one off, female mold with plywood sheating, coated and smoothed with putty. after gelcoat and first coat (barrier coat - 300 gsm csm x 2 layers) resin infusion was applied. nothing trouble.

A couple of layers of glass plus gelcoat should be fine... it all depends on how carefully you do the work tho... it only takes a tiny pinhole to create a leak. You can test the vacuum integrity by putting some breather or flow media material only in the mold and bagging it. Youll up up throwing the bag away after the test however...

okay great, seems like i should be fine.

    i got away with gel, 1x 225 CSM, 1x 300CSM and 1x280 weave on 32ft tooling.

This is a 76ft vessel so the stakes are a bit higher.

i feel the best way to go about the layup is to apply gel, and a layer of 225. once that has cured 2x300.
