Wynand I just want to explain my strange behaviour at the moment ;)
It will help you to understand my "thinking" behind the "TEN"

I was in Cape Town for a two week holiday in December, first week Strand second week Big Bay Bloubergstrand. First time ever that I experienced the "Cape Doctor" in all it's fury. The wind blew the people of the pavements. In Strand we could only go walking one afternoon. The wind almost blew me off the jetty at Gordonsbay. Fisrt time ever that I saw the wind blowing into the waves at Strand AND FLATTEN the surf waves.

I went out to Seal Island from Houtbay and loved the wild weather BUT in hindsight it was very irresponsible for the operators to go out in those conditions.

Bloubergstrand was the game changer. Not a boat in sight - they could not get ships in and out of the harbour BUT 100'S OF KITE SURFERS. I followed them by car all the way up to Koeberg. Awesome stuff.

Then Cape2Rio2014. You met Roux Gerber of DoDo when we launched Ken's big motor cat, he was the guy that came over for breakfast, long pony tail hair (computer guy) They suffered broken rudder, engine failure and blew out the main on the Fortuna 37. Blackcat snapped off the spade rudder. It was carnage - SECOND DAY of the race. Something like 10 boats out of the race on day 2. And the one guy dead.

So my next boat must be small - comfortable (sit - stand - eat - bed) by definition heavy displacement with a skeg/full length keel to support a very strong rudder.
This little "TEN" ticks all my boxes and I would simply love to try it.

My thinking is design the boat around the man and NOT the other way around and design a boat and then figure out where the bunk could/should/would go.

As you can gather I am spending hours and hours on the CAD and I love it.

:D :D :D If the missus kicks me out I will go and live on my big 5m "Fargo" at the Vaaldam :D :D :D

    Hey Manie,

During the first OSTAR, in which Bruce Dalling sailed Voortrekker 1, one o the guys replaced most of his victuals with beer, finished and had a fantastic race. One ******* of a hangover though, I assume.

Myself I have been "landsick" after sailing a Double Cape on Voories 2, and having mostly OBS for breakfast, lunch and supper. And we ended up taking line honours and handicap. Maybe there is a trend here...?

I've been puzzling about the timing of all this. If you sail ATW (westabout) moving continuously at a reference speed of 3 knots, with only short stops, how does the timing work? How do you avoid the hurricane/cyclone seasons and round Cape of Good Hope at the right (summer?) time?

The kite-powered boat in post #37 to #39 failed, but I'm wondering how he had thought to solve light airs with a kite only . . .

Double ended looks a bit sloppy with available space in max 10' . .

    P.S. - - The kite might be a good idea to have on board as a jury rig . . ? ?

As AIT stock design I only know Selway Fisher's MICRO 10.

    Is there a MICRO 10 built yet . . ? ?

I went so far as to play around with a design for that.

It actually had 6 ft standing headroom midships with the box keel. It would have had to be either molded fiberglass or strip cored and sheathed. At the waterline show it displaces 2000 lbs and though I never drew in a rig I had anticipated perhaps a Chinese Lug or Junk rig. I have about 15 different iterations (development stages) but these are the three best I think.

I haven't touched those in several years though. Still... interesting though(t) exercise

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for posting your designs, very spacious for a 10 footer, perhaps someone wants to carry on with them . . . :)
