Air-Only Ventilators - A question. Perhaps someone in Europe knows.

I don't post too often here anymore. But back between 2007 and 2016 or so, this site was responsible in large part for a restoration that I did on a 1973 Silverton Sedan. I did the grunt work but I could write for hours about all the help and encouragement that so many provided. I'll post a photo of my boat and below ask a question.

When I built the boat I decided not to add a hatch to the foredeck. After running the boat for a dozen years I'm still OK without a hatch. But I'm doing some long distance traveling now and would like to add some ventilation to the cabin. So I've been looking at vents and dorade boxes.

I came across a company in Europe. In Ukraine. Air-Only Ventilators seems to have an interesting approach. I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions on their products.

Well, it looks pretty good. But I have never used one.

I've never seen one used either, but they look a lot like an "improved" Nicro Fico/Marinco low profile vent. It is important to note that both of those vents were powered. Given the flow complexity and float restrictions of the Air-Only vents I would expect them to need forced intake/exhaust also.

Thanks for the replies guys. Jehardiman, Air-Only does offer a powered ventilation fan as an option. Below is a link to their product line. The fan option will flow about 50 cubic meters per hour and has a couple of speeds according to air only. It's using a small computer fan, only draws about 0.12 amps @ 12 volts. I'm just trying to find out if anyone has actually used one of these and how they liked it. I'm fishin for some opinions.

I've never seen those exact ventilators,but Ukraine is quite a long way away.The almost universal equivalent from Vetus is very common. https://vetusonline.com/english/ufo2.html

Have used the Air-Only type with good results; has quite low internal losses, so works fine without fan, yet efficiently blocking water entrance. The Vetus model not good enough in exposed positions, like MIA's fore-deck.

I received the air-only ventilator from Ukraine on April 1st. I ordered a couple of the low profile vents with the optional fans. Items came well packaged and were undamaged in shipping. Ordering process was straight forward. A little different than ordering from an internet retailer in the United States but I had no issues. There was a one week delay in getting confirmation on the order. After that the communications was fine. I ordered the item on March 1st, so it took exactly a month for them to get it here.

Maybe this information will be useful for someone considering using an air-only product.

This is a follow-up/review of the "Air-Only" ventilators that I installed this past spring. Five words describe my experience.

They work exactly as described.

I purchased two of the low profile ventilators and decided to add the powered fans as an option. I installed them on the foredeck of my small cruiser. Getting some airflow into the v-berth solved an issue that I was sometimes having regarding carbon monoxide entering the cabin when underway. SInce I'm not a blue water cruiser, taking green water over the bow isn't an issue for me. That said we've had some really heavy rains/storms this summer. In one instance over 6 inches of rain fell in a short time. These ventilators were open and I never got a drop of water in my v-berth.

I also liked the idea of purchasing from a relatively small business in Ukraine.

The purchase process went smoothly. The company warned me that it might take some time to get the order out. It did. It took a month. But they did get the order out and kept me informed.

Good company, good product. I just wanted people to know.

I used two of the ventilators. You can see one of them behind the anchor winch in the photo below.

Interesting approach. I’d be curious to hear how well these perform in practice, particularly in terms of airflow and preventing water ingress in rough conditions. For a boat doing long-distance cruising, ventilation without compromising weather protection seems like a tricky balance. Would be interested to hear from anyone who has actually used them.
