Regarding the Volkswagen Pathfinder Diesal; Does anyone know where I can get an air filter for this engine. Mine is the 50hp pathfinder. I am in So. California.
    Thanks,
    Kelldog.

    You mean Nissan Pathfinder, right?

Not Nissan. Sorry, should have been more precise. It is a Volkswagon Pathfinder Diesel 50hp.

What kind of installation is it? Depending on the headroom, they are different options.

The name Pathfinder is used for many things and one of them is a company (I think Canadian, but not sure) that marinised VW diesels from the days that they where 1.5 litre (1471 cc) ca. 1978 and up. This gives a match with the mentioned 50hp.

If it is this engine type then the specs of a non marinised version in a car are as follow:

For example a 1978 Volkswagen Golf L Diesel

    http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=43032

    - Bore × stroke: 76.50 mm × 80.00 mm, 3.01 in × 3.15 in
    - Cylinders: Straight 4
    - Displacement: 1.5 litre, 1471 cc, (89.766 cu in)
    - Type: Single OverHead Camshaft, 2 valves per cylinder, 8 valves in total
    - Compression ratio: 23.50:1
    - Fuel system: Bosch diesel inj.
    - Maximum power: (DIN) 50.7 HP/PS/PK/CV/etc. (50.0 bhp) (37.3 kW) @ 5000 rpm
    - Specific output: 34 bhp/litre, 0.56 bhp/cu in
    - Maximum torque: (DIN) 80.0 Nm (59 ft·lb) (8.2 kgm) @ 3000 rpm
    - bmep = Brake Mean Effective Pressure: 683.4 kPa (99.1 psi)
    - Specific torque: 54.38 Nm/litre
    - Maximum rpm: ????
    - Main bearings: 5
    - Coolant: Water
    - Bore/stroke ratio: 0.96
    - Unitary capacity: 367.75 cc/cylinder
    - Aspiration: Normal D. (atmospheric pressure)
    - Compressor: None
    - Intercooler: None
    - Catalytic converter: None

To come back to the air filter question; on this forum was told to me, here in post#16 and here in post#20, ‘‘no air filter on a marine diesel’’.

    Good Luck!

Most small diesels I have seen have a silencer on the intake. Looks very similiar to an air filter, but the function is to reduce intake noise, not filter the air. some are paper, some are metal mesh affairs. I have even seen K&N car air filters used. Just about anything will work or if the box is well sound insulated, use nothing.
