well, I hope your not like that Kingdom Captain metaphorically speaking that is here mr. good will, starving us for build pics and other illuminous sh#@ that is!I suppose some of these guys havn't seen the basic paper napkin sketches in Preliminary Designs of Boats and Ships. Tough Neighborhood here or so I noticed checking this other thread I found interesting and part the reason I don't spend much time here but very much grateful for anyway. http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/bo...ent-naval-architects-please-help-30693-2.html

I like the bumper sticker that say's "slap that a**, slap it!" I pulled most of starboard garboard broad strake from this by myself and such the smelly dirty pain it was and then had to mill it to litttle souverioners.

To Tinklespout,
should we be more polite, well possibly yes. Trouble is that this thread has been going on for years and seems little closer to being built. Was first meant to be a sailing boat, has now transgressed into a long narrow cruising boat. Religion was brought into it by the thread creator. The thread creator is not keen to listen to advice and seems intent on pottering along with ideas that are unusual.
Yes, a long narrow efficient power cruiser might be an ok boat, but the current design still has a long way to go. How many years has it taken to get to this point (where it still has many things wrong with it). His design is slowly getting better, with emphasis on slowly. After all these years have metacentre and roll period calculations been done (answer, I dont think so, and they are not amazingly complicated)
If you look back at the start, people were generally more polite and helpful, as the years have passed people have becomes less so and just use it as a form of light entertainment.
Doubt very few people expect a real boat to be built, or treat the thread seriously anymore. Its function is not to design a boat, but to entertain.

Quit whining about it. If you want to do something about it, "Flag the moderator " yourself.
Discussion of religion is not allowed here, but if proclamations and advertising from the Bible is allowed, common sense rebuttals ought to be allowed also.
I find religion interesting, it's like being a witness to history and myths in the making.

Goodwill has started building the boat, he posted photos of his progress. The project is on hold for the winter, as Goodwill lives in Northern USA and the build is outside where it is too cold for epoxy, etc.

Well if Goodwill has started building his boat, then good for him. Must say that I am suprised.
Believe it or not, my life does not revolve around this thread, might pop in once, then come back three months later.
As to the latest skeches, boat seems 50ft long by 8.5ft wide. (roughly 6:1 ratio). However of that 50ft of boat (which is a fair sized boat) how much of it has a height where you can actually stand up.
Looks like 3ft or so in the stern cabin, the pilot house is not high enough to stand up in also, that leaves a 5ft section forward where there is enough height to stand up in. Total 8ft of boat has enough height where you can actually stand up straight, in a 50ft boat.
Now if the ballast was in the keel (lead or steel or concrete) that would allow for more topweight. thus a lot more of the boat could have 6ft 4 headroom.

OK I will be nice
spent 30 minutes doing a doodle, lines are taken from Goodwill's boat. Length and beam and lines remain the same, all I have done is increase cabin height forward and put the ballast in the keel. It is a rough sketch, so go easy
If I knew what projected weight would be, I could put lines into software and determine where the waterline would be and also where the center of gravity should be in order to obtain a straight trim
In the end it is Goodwill's boat, this sketch is just a polite suggestion.

to samsam yes u were right,,,, there is a build starting
was sceptical, but did find some building photos on page 59. Looks strip built on tempory frames, but no chine logs to join the hull to the bulkheads? he is using fillets? cant see any internal framing. Hmmm something about it,,, just does not look right... is it a lack of frames, why is he using wood for a hardchine hull, unless of course plywood goes over the planks? Just does not look right

I'm not sure of the details, but mainly I think it's built using the dimensions of the Ark, as that being Inspired, has to be a perfect nautical shape. It's being built with big box lumberyard materials, as that's all Noah had access to. Osha is not involved, E don't need no steenking OSHA. I believe lately, with no boat building going on due to the weather, he has been churning out other designs accompanied with quotes from the Book. It's not exactly a Mission From God, but he has a Vision and isn't very willing to listen to advice and dismisses most suggestions no matter their validity. He would probably listen to Bolger, if that tells you anything. I'm not sure, maybe Bolger is being channeled. Also, the build was to only take a few months, but that has gone as it goes for everyone. I guess if he gets it done, he'll find out it's abilities and go from there. I don't think he would load it full of kiddiegarders and head out into the North Atlantic singing hymns.

Peter,
Thanks for your comments. I can see by your efforts on the drawing that you are a very thoughtful person. I'd bet that GoodWill is as well, he's just driven by his enthusiasm to build a boat. Hopefully your kindness is contagious.
Back to your drawing, if you cut it off 2 feet in front of your pilot house, you've drawn what is essentially a Bolger Champlain; perhaps you are channeling Bolger, or perhaps it was intentional. Interestingly enough, I'm getting ready to finish one for a lady whose husband died of cancer at 80% completion. I'm going to need a fair amount of input from y'all on that one!
