They are under 12 m x4m. Talked to a friend and he said that you just need a receipt saying you bought it to prove ownership??????Anyway just wondering....there seems to be quite a few abandoned small sail boats around,beer cans ,magazines,blankets and water inside.....

I don't know what the laws are in Sweden about abandoned property, but in the USA you can't just tow it away. Every state has different rules. I would consult with someone who knows the law in Sweden first before doing something that might get you charged with theft.

 

I think the guy who left the beer cans probably has the right idea. Possession is 9/10ths as they say.

It sounds like communal boats.

Take one out, put it back where you found it.

 

A good plan is to start painting the boat. The owner will normally wait until you are nearly finished then pop up out a hole in the ground!
On a serious note i was once involved with moving a 36ft motor boat, this had been abandoned for 20 years & was disposed of by the local council legally.
A series of recorded delivery letters to last known address plus legal notices afixed to the boat advertising disposal, advertising disposal, the works.
When we moved her for the new owner we had literally just arrived back at the yard when the police swooped on us saying you have stolen Mr Smiths boat!
Once it was all explained they were happy & went away. It turned out "Mr Smith" who had abandoned it for 20 years lived in a house directly across the road from where the boat sat for all that time. Go figure!

 

The correct way to proceed is to contact the Swedish Police and clame your intrest in this abandoned boat. Declare it as a sea finding. The police is obligated to try to find the owner within three month or you have become the lawful owner. If you want more help i recommend you to contact a swedish lawyer.

Do not start to work or move the boat. That's concidered a crime in Sweden.

If the boat is locked with a chain or something it is has a owner.

In sweden you can contact the police and the insurace companies hotline for boats to tell if it is reported stolen.

Small boats are not registrered in Sweden so the owner has to clame it with som evidence, like a byers contract or such or an insurance for that particular boat. (Yes both could be faked but its hard to fake hull, and engine S/N)
