A Small Skiff for Coastal Florida

    hoytedow Carbon Based Life Form

    I've never built a soft chine boat before. I might even put a very small sail on it. That will also be a first for me. Always used plywood before so might try something a little(a lot) different based on all I have learned here.

    Mertens has a nice ply canoe on boat builder.

    Canoes are pretty variable. You can go small, big, narrow, wide, stable, tippy, fast, slow, etc.

    I built a Gilpatrick Laker 20 years ago. It serves me well, but it is a bear to paddle; it is just so damned wide.

    Why would you want two canoes? I think one nice light 17 footer is better. How many pax?

    I have decided not to build them. I am short of working space. Now is the time to look at some factory built models.
    I may or not hook 2 together and hoist a sail.
