"Questions: When you say Nissan RE8's power is 280HP, What power are you talking about? DIN or SAE? (This is: with or without engine's appliances?). There can be a significative difference between those two (10% or even more!). For propulsion you need to know the net HP at the engine's shaft, so deducting from SAE power (if it's the case) all its 'hardware' (alternator, pumps, etc) power deductions. So it's more useful to use rated DIN power instead of SAE. Also: Intermittent or Continuous power? You need to know continuous. A rule of thumb is to take continuous as 85% of intermittent, so if they are 280 HP intermittent, what you really have for cruising is rather something like 240 HP

Make yourself sure about this. I always talk DIN power, continuous rating"

As a light weight truck takeout even 50% of the "claimed" power is quite optomistic.

Looking at what I can find on this engine , I would not prop it for more than 85 to 100hp and expect any usefull service life./

A REAL medium duty engine , Cat, Cummins, M/B J. Deere would be a better choice fore what is basically a motorboat with sails.

    G. Perhaps you could work out the power required to power at 8K (LRC) and sugest a useable MARINE engine with a 24/7 power rating of about 30-50% higher.

For most motorboats , engines are like batterys , they need replacement after a while.

On our work boats the engine is under a hatch , and can be R&R in a day , in any yard with a suitable crane.

You might consider installing a used engine , with the plan on replacing it when you find a "deal" on a better quality engine.

Simply attempt to figure which marine Cat , Mann or Deere would be suitable and build the basic engine mounts for that engine. Then create a mount table to hold what ever you can get running where you are. A boat that sails well would probably never bother to swop out , but at least you build in the option.

Designers sell STOCK plans cheap , as the volume makes up for the low cost.
No designer of stock boats is willing to redesign a boat , select hypothetical "best" equippment , or carry on daily correspondance with any stock plans purchser.
TIME is money , and the pittance for stock plans does not leave much time to write a book for every owner, on a weekly basis.

Build the hull, install the working bulkheads , then worry about which tea kettle will fit in the locker, and buy it THEN!

As to chartering , at least here in the US it requires a vessel specially built , and the operator needs a license , sea time , tests ect.

Every area you go to you will be stepping on an existing vessels area of operation, so EXPECT hassles from the local law folks .

Do a google on charters , here in the US (Florida) a fine 50ft boat can be had for $2000 a WEEK.
How do you plan on finding and selling $1000 a day charters in the 3rd world?

Our charter boats usually require an advertising budget $25,000 to $75,000 to keep full for a season, depending weather their day boats (higher add budget ) or overnighter , fewer folks , easier to fill. Some advertising requires MONTHS of lead time.

Yup, overhaul,................ always worry about that part, japaness stuff is so so much cheaper.

Yup, you are right again.:) I did consider that and was finding the best engine positioning.......

How you know everything I have plan? You are a PSI.......:D

Now that I havent thought of, making hole on the bed for various engine, just in case one of the engine could fit. Thanks

Well he have 4 offices with lots of junior designer sitting on couch filing their nails................ Main thing was he said Trader 65 could be a 100/100 but I know that is impossible........ the forum have a thread on it.

You make me sad........ I am still looking for similar design form other designer or buy from Bruce Roberts International...... the rival.I know Bruce's resale value is low but in Indonesia, you can sell almost anything with a good price, too many people dont understand boat.

The building of the vessel is supervise by Sid Nixon, the shipwright loftsman. Here license can be acquire with the dept will check.

The paperwork will be neat and folded and iron out the grim.

a Third of the world crazy and nice boat are in America........ many competition bring price down.......... Everything in Indonesia is expensive, law of scacity does apply.

Just use the newspaper......... The boat stay in Balikpapan and wait for charter...... if you return it gonna bring her back to this port.

Maintaince is not hard as I have a docking facilities and park her at my own place........

The ship will be magic as the interior and option will entice people.......... can be instantly transform from diving utilites, Party-on-board, romantic cruise, gambling casino?..... Intrnational water, just poker guys:) weekend stuff. and etc........................:D

I am glad you like to give conflict comment as it is contructive in disgues...:)

    Wellydeckhand

P.S. know any designer have similar design? I may buy plan from them...... the Bruce is not that streamlined.

The best way to get a boat that fits your desires , is to MAKE A LIST.

Put everything in order with a eye to "must have" v/s need to have.

After creating the list put a PRICE besides every choice, of what its worth to you.

Then do some addition , check your billfold , and see how close you are.

Post it!, NO DOUBT there will be sugestions , opinions and comments (about most of your choices!)

    Perhaps educational , ceretainly fun!

Thanks seaspark, Thanks FastFred, I have just send email to the rival of Bruce Roberts-Goodson.......... hoping Bruce Roberts-International could sell the plan to me instead. If this all failed then an alternative plan would be consider.

It is so heart breaking with a dream broken because of misunderstanding.....:(

Edit: Give me time to read the Dix design, I did learn a bit on construction on his website before........ nice bloke:)
I have send him an email and see how he answer...... DIX65 with hull/deck plan option at great discount.
