HJ 241 hamilton jet best suited engine option.

    Iam currently building a Tahoe 19 (hankinson design) and going to run a Hamilton jet.I have managed to buy a HJ 241 cheap, needs new seels etc. paid $500 Australian, my problem is what engine to run, would like to run a LS engine to keep the V8 sound for the style of boat. What do you guys think. boat will be 22 feet long 7.4 feet wide 3500lbs all up and has a deadrise at the stern of 8 degrees to 13 degrees at amidships and a delta pad.

    Well, why guess?...just sue the manufacturers recommendations for their units. Your first start is the power range:

    So..now you can select whichever engine has the power in the range they suggest for your jet.

    You might want to try the River Jet Boat Forum as they have quite a few threads on the 241, performance etc
    Also google Hamilton 241 Installation Manual, and download it
    Of particular note is that it appears that there is a table that lists the shaft angle for different deadrise hulls and you have to ensure that the transom mount angle is
    met as the the seal unit, while it will accommodate some differences in transom angle the variance is small
    From Adhocs graphs, the obvious information there is that you need bigger hp at lower rpm, so the engine match is important. If high speed is your goal the 241 is not the best pump
    as it appears that it is more for packing loads.
    Another most important option is the inspection hole extension to permit opening the inspection hole when on the water to dig stuff out of the intake.
