I decided to stop cluttering up the Jokes thread with the chess match between Mark775 and myself on itsyourturn.com, and started a separate thread. I'm preparing for the flood of folks who'll come stampeding in here to watch; I estimate as many as six or seven people might read the thread. :D:D

Of course, this is going to be just your normal, friendly set of chess games between friends. In other words: Mark is planning to publicly spank me until I'm too humiliated to show my face in the forums. And to show my respect and appreciation for a worthy opponent, I'm hoping to send him into therapy to deal with the fact that he's crying himself to sleep every night.:p

Spectators are welcome, but please hold the applause down so as not to distract the players. And shameless kibitzers will be invited to put up or shut up; itsyourturn.com memberships are free.

Troy, it won't let me move for some reason - I am going to take a stab that it is because I am not a member. I need to do some stuff before Five, I'll look into it later.

I thought this endeavor would eventually morph into the Gossage-Varbedian papers, but not quite so quickly.

That's the reason. I just looked it up, and they limit non-paying members to 15 moves a day now. Pretty chintzy of them; they used to allow something like forty or fifty.

Maybe I'm a head-in-the-clouds-no-hoper, but couldn't you play the game here?

Interesting question. There may be some sort of shareware program out there. If there is, Jeff might have to install it on this site for it to be usable; I'll check around, and see what I can learn.

Too cumbersome. Just make moves on your own chessboard and post them here too. Or don't you have a chess set with you, or the ability to carve one out of tumbleweeds?

Nope; I drag enough things around between home, 2nd home, motor home, control room at work and locker room at work, and routinely leave them where I'm not when I need them -- or bury them somewhere in my pickup. Be damned if I'll start dragging a chess board around too....

But if Mark wants to post his moves in this thread, there are plenty of pgn viewers online where I can keep track of the game, and I usually have my laptop handy.

You want to do that, Mark? I'm a little P.O.'d at itsyourturn.com for getting so stingy with moves for non-paying members, anyway. I'd have gone elsewhere instead of renewing my paid membership, had I known they've changed their policies; there are sites with unlimited free play.

Fair enough. Maybe you two should try rock-paper-scissors.

And Congratulations on slowing Chess down to its pre-computer speeds!
At this rate you will soon be the first Americans who can appreciate the Noble and Most Excellent Game of Test Cricket :)

Well, I tried capturing the pics on that site and posting here but it wouldn't let me (I just got a picture of a horse). Okay, wait a few. I'll get one of my travel boards until somebody descibes a better way.

I found what seemed to be the answer: a portable PGN reader that I could copy and paste here. So I loaded it, and the instructions said, "OK, now grab the source code for this and copy it to your web page."

But I couldn't figure out how to 'grab the source code.' It was nowhere to be found.....couldn't pry anything open with a crowbar.

Okay, here's the set-up. Hah - I even found one of the rare lost photos of the desert dog here! I'll sit him across from me.:

Troy, would you mind backing up a bit for this shot. You are so...In my face.

That's better, thanks. Now I can concentrate. Here's game number 2 where I'm white:

I look better in a hat....

I have a pgn reader up in another window; move whenever you're ready. Or wait until IYT.com starts another day, I guess. Might be worth a try now. If they're running on Eastern Standard Time, it's past midnight there.
