I am planning on building a 12'x40' barge. the original plan was to use 6 - 2"x6"x40' oak boards evenly spaced for the keel. However these things are horrifically expensive. Will treated pine work instead. Treated pine does not rot, but it is not nearly as strong. Would like to speak to someone who has built a large boat out of pine.

    Thanks
