    Pretty interesting stuff about the tack. I guess since both Japan and Oracle train in the same spot and even against each other the Japanese were never going to keep it quiet. The game moves on.

    I still don't see the jib from the on-board camera video,...on either tack.

    Yes, I see the other window shot of the vessel with a jib, but it doesn't appear coordinated with the on-board video?...in fact appears to be a different tacking situation??

    Brian, at 21 seconds in on the upper right corner there is a small image of the boat tacking that shows the jib-same boat as best I can tell. The wing blocks the jib because it rotates past the centerline slightly.

    35th America's Cup on Foils---Oracle

    Spithills injury still a problem for the ACWS in Toulon, France starting shortly--from Scuttlebutt tonight:

    Oracle Team USA skipper/helmsman Jimmy Spithill (AUS) will not compete as he rehabs an injured elbow. “I wanted to be 100% right before I load it up in racing environment,” Spithill explained. “The rehab is coming along well, but there’s a slight chance that I could re-injure it by coming back too early, and that’s a risk we don’t need to take."
    Taking over at the helm for Spithill will be sailing team manager and tactician Tom Slingsby (AUS). “Tom has been steering and racing our AC45S boat in Bermuda a lot over the summer and I know he’s keen to get out there and show what he can do," noted Spithill.
    The full race crew in Toulon will consist of Slingsby (AUS), Kyle Langford (AUS), Sam Newton (AUS), Joe Newton (AUS), Louis Sinclair (ANT).

    The answer is yes of course. You could address durability issues by locating circuits along (on) a batten.

    The big problem is getting a payoff. The AC solid wing can reproduce shape with extreme accuracy... your soft sail can not so the sensors would just be lots more data to deal with continuously. You don't know or control your sail shape accurately enough to make use of pressure data. A better use of your tech budget would be to use 3D cameras to record and reproduce sail shape.

    The aerodynamics class class I took had a lab, and the most interesting and informative sensor IMHO was a tiny microphone on a stick that was used to measure boundary layer thickness. Other than boundary layer development, aerodynamics is a known. Tiny mics are dirt cheap compared to MEM pressure sensors.
