I have an old 28 ft Fiberform Executive Cruiser That has Twin Omc Outdrives that are shot. I am fairly familiar with the volvo 280 ( I had one on a previos boat) so my plan was to convert to the 280's. In my search I came across a mechanic who has a pair of 290 with a complete rebuild at a really good price. I cant seam to find any Infomation on the differences between a 280and a 290 other than the tilt mechanism. Can any one enlighten me?

The tilt is the main difference. It gives you a lot more control over the trim while running. Also, it is more reliable than the reverse lock.

Sweet, I was really happy with the 280 before. So it sounds like, I would like the 290s just fine. Interestingly enough my only problem with the 280 was the reverse lock.:)
