    Hey Tinhorn! Thanks for those pages! Good reading! Those are basically the same calculations that I saw on the other thread but they were from a different poster and a different book. I haven't had time to play with the numbers yet but will be interesting to see the difference between "real math" and "what looks proportional"...

    More efficiency is supposed to provided by articulating paddles.

    Where the water is pushed , but not lifted .

    Have seen drawings and it does not look too hard to build.

    If memory serves, the old-time calculations indicated increased efficiency of 15-20% for articulating paddles. And because they "slap" less than static paddles, they transmit less vibration and noise to the boat.
