Hello, I’m looking for a set of plans for a Spira Mobile Garvey - Jeff’s 27 footer. I have the 16’ plans, but now that I’m finally building I’d like to go bigger… if I can find drawings.

Does anybody have a set and could at least send me photos / scans of the frame dimensions?

Thanks in advance for any help. I’d consider plans from another designer, but haven’t been able to find anything quite the same size that has a bow ramp option.

That’s a possibility, thank you for the suggestion. I do like Jeff’s design for the amount of rocker as compared to a lot of the designs that are more barge like.

Honestly if anyone has any plans over 16’ I’d be interested to see them. The 27 seems about right for me, but I know he had a bunch of other sizes and I’ll take what I can get. Could at least give me some ideas and maybe I could add or remove a frame or two.

How do they seal the bow doors on these?
Is the answer "mostly not really, just expect to do some bailing" and "mostly the door blasts the water out of the way when I hits little waves".
If you left the boat loaded past the water-line of the door would it be flooded when you came back?

It’s intended to be left in the water without leaking. My 16’ plans specify McMaster Carr Silicone Strips 20’ long part number 1279N1, and 2 McMaster Carr stainless clamps 5071A57 for clamping the door closed. With a piano hinge at the bottom and the silicone strips run all the way around. I’m sure Spira has a YouTube that shows it in detail, and I’m sure they can be built without actively leaking because there are several examples I’ve seen that are very nice boats that wouldn’t be taken out on the water with the intention of bailing the whole time. Not sure how fast / convenient system is as far as unclamping and re-clamping.
