    You're welcome of course!

    ;)

There's a little more, here and there, about that boat. In a thread here on the forum there's a good post by his brother David. Thread also has some Youtube links, if I recall.

No-one's updated this facebook page for a while, but it has some links to stuff.

    Fotos

Thank you Doug for the Link. 2014 I´m missing the mass of fotos from 2013, esp. those of "killerdana - Dana Clark" (the best I´ve found 2013) http://www.flickr.com/photos/28715664@N08/sets/. SA offers some with good comments - but not much.
Hope there will be more to come.

    ...

It's been fun observing this race. Last of the Multihull/Kayaks w amas have been camped at checkpoint 3 and are now due for a dawn start across to Largo.

There was mention of a front expected, Windguru is predicting southerly wind building to 20 knots/gusts to 26, today.

    ...

Looking back on the race, if you take a closer look at Sewsew's and SOS's movements on Saturday, the first day, maybe there's something to be learned.

Unlike SOS, Sewsew kept his position hidden on the tracker, but he hit the OK button several times:
    • His first 'OK' was about a mile off Siesta Key/Big Pass at 11:02AM
    • He checked in at CP1 at 14:25
    • He hit OK at 6:38PM, about 18nm offshore below Sanibel/off Ft Myers when it was about time to change course and head for CP2.
    • He hit OK again at 9:49PM a half-mile off the beach below Marco at Ten Thousand Island
    • He switched on his tracker halfway up the mangrove channel to Chokoloskee Bay, approximately at midnight (tracker stayed on for the rest of the race).

These positions show he was able to keep an average speed during the light winds in the morning of 5.4 knots to his first OK, and during the evening on his leg towards Marco he was averaging 12.45 knots.

So where did he sail? It looks like he stayed closer to shore down towards CP1, then I assume he took as short a ride down the ICW as possible to Gasparilla Pass, after which he went well out to sea on his way past Sanibel.

Here's the tide chart for Everglades City on Sunday 2 March:

    Tide EvergladesCity 2March'14.jpg

Judging from that table, it doesn't look like he got to the entry of Chokoloskee Bay at the last moment, but that he had about 3 hours of favorable tide?

    Hmmmm.

    Here's an interesting factoid!

The current Google satellite photos (or some of them?) for Florida Bay date from March 7th 2013.

I zoomed completely in on the docks at Flamingo, and there appear to be three Watertribe boats there.

.. Where were you Watertribers on March 7th last year?

Here's a photo of Sizzors just before the start, showing the autopilot strapped to the rear beam:

I like that fork he's put on the bow, to keep the Code0 from filling with water.

Thanks for the pic Blackburn. That's the kind of very basic autopilot I was guessing he used. They are quite low tech, which is why I was calling out some of the claims Baltic Bandit was initially making regarding sleeping with the boat just flying along. You can do that with an gyro pilot (pick your brand), but these are quite a bit more limited. They are simple though and easily installed with low power consumption, and until it turns into an arms race, that's what I'd use too. Hopefully that day will never come. This race is perfect as it is. Thanks for all the info guys.

    Well, here's a needle in a haystack.

    In fact two needles!

These two WaterTribe kayaks as seen from Space, during the 2013 Everglades Challenge.

And the precise coordinates of their location?

They are very nice coordinates, I assure you!

    Beautiful coordinates.

    lol

I'm going to accept bids, in the form of sharks' teeth etc.

if anyone is interested to know them...

Thank you kindly Hoyt. I sort of agree!

Do they really take these Google Earth pictures from geostationary orbit,

    ~22,230 miles away???

I've tried to check on that without finding the answer.
