    No. That's a cracked engine block. They neglected it, froze and cracked, sold it to Anne and I.

    Oh dear. Did you 'find out' about this crack when you tried to start it?
    Do you have any recourse against the seller, or is it a case of 'caveat emptor'?

    If it is a nice Bayliner that you want to keep regardless, would it be worthwhile putting a pod on the back for an O/B motor, or would it be easier to simply find a replacement inboard engine?

    Yes, started for the first time this morning. Caveat emptor. But what can I drop in it's place?

    Mercruiser doesn't even sell the 3l anymore. Might to cheaper to put in a 4.3.

    Or this IMG_20220223_143621993_HDR.jpg
    It's been lost in the blackberry canes for a decade, and was abandoned there when it was old. But it's an engine with an alpha leg. Compatible. Chainsawed off the transom. Pull it tomorrow, and into the shop.

    The marina nearby said 8k in parts and 3k in labour. Not likely

    Hey, if that crack is the only damage, it is weldable. I've repaired similar damages, using soft nickel electrodes, pre-"warming" (not "heating"), short welds, and "purring" the weld when hot, and then slooow cooling. The gasket surface may have to be shaved for straightness, but most often not.

    Have you abandoned the outboard plans, btw?

    If there are no cracks on the inside, you can fix that with JB Weld. There is little pressure on the water. Drill a hole at the ends of the cracks, and use a die grinder to open a groove first.

    This is on the bayliner we bought to commute. Serenity will still get outboard engines.

    @gonzo , @baeckmo , how do I check for other cracks?

    plug all existing openings, and pressurize the waterjack. Up to maybe 5 psi. If it bleeds down, then there is an interior leak

    Thanks @Barry . Considering the cost of replacement block and manifold, the extra work is certainly justified. What timing! I'm supposed to move to a water access house Saturday. Using this boat...
