    Welcome,
Many here who share there knowledge freely.
Here is Eric W. Sponberg web page. I think you will like the THE DESIGN RATIOS
    Home https://ericwsponberg.com/
THE DESIGN RATIOS A Naval Architect’s Dozen (or thereabouts) A primer on some basic principles of naval architecture for small craft. As first published on BoatDesign.net, January – March, 2010. By Eric W. Sponberg Naval Architect BSE, PE (CT) CEng (UK)

I also have enjoyed Sensible Cruising Designs by: L. Francis Herreshoff. It has some great construction specification and just all around good advice about boating in general. Most of the boats are larger and a few smaller but the information between the covers is priceless if you are embarking on building a wooden sailboat none the less.
Mr. Burgess commenting on some articles he had recently read in the Rudder, now gathered in this book, he wrote to the Rudder on November 24, 1943, as follows:
"The various articles of Mr. Herreshoff which you have published in the last few months are splendid. They are evoking the highest praise from all I meet who have read them. I have recommended them in turn to many more who have been unable to obtain copies of your magazine. "May I suggest that you consider reprinting them together under one cover and offering them for sale. I am sure you will get a hearty response."

    Hey everyone,

thank you John, for those links! I've read through 'The Design Ratios' ... definitely a good resource to have. Some things
are clearer than in Elements of Yacht Design. I understand most of those

The MIT Herreshoff Collection has filled many hours of my life already ... it's so awesome to be able to look over
all these drawings in detail from home!

I've now modelled three hulls in Maxsurf:
A York 18 with a keel and ballast based on the Herreshoff 12 1/2
A Welsford Pathfinder with optional water ballast
And something in between - basically a York 18 with flat bottom and water ballast instead of the ballast keel.

Then I was planning to calculate Equilibrium Conditions for all three with one crew sitting inside in the centre to get
wetted area, displacement and prismatic coefficient for the light ship to compare.

Then I would calculate the GZ curve to starboard with the crew on port to get max GZ and angle to then calculate
the max Righting Moment. I would then calculate a max Sail Area from that at that angle.
(and see how that compares to the designed SA for the Pathfinder and York 18)

I'd then put all three models with that calculated Sail Area through the VPP for fun.

Does that sound like it makes sense at all?
