twin engines

hi there my plans call for my boat to have 2 260hp engines installed as the boat is 55ft since i am not worrying about speed would it be possilbe to put in 2 125hp engines instead the boat will only used for coastal use

 

The decision whether to use smaller engines rests on several factors. First of which is the what type of hull your proposed boat is to have. Next is the displacement of the boat which is also affected by the hull type. Finally the intended use of the boat should also be considered when choosing power for any boat.

Is this boat a full displacement hull?
Is this a trawler style boat where range is a primary factor?

These are just a few of the many questions that should be asked before a real answer can be given regarding the powering of any boat.
