Hey guys! New member here. I’m looking at purchasing this 1981 compac 16 but I’m a little uncertain due to missing compression post. The mast is hinged and the seller states it’s been reinforced as seen in the photo below. Is this something I should be concerned about or is it okay as is?
    Thank you for your input!

    Is that masonite?

It looks adequately braced, considering the mast tabernacle is so near the cabintop's forward bulkhead, but replacing the compression post should be simple enough. Get rid of the masonite.

Thank you for that! I was a little concerned initially. That pic looks beautiful! Ideas for a makeover? When you say Masonite, are you referring to the brown carpet inside? Or the plywood running the inside base of the cabin?

I was referring to the brown plywood bracing that forms the vertical and horizontal structures. In the photograph, it looks to me like masonite, not plywood. If it's plywood and not masonite. Nothing to worry about. Masonite won't have the stiffness over time, especially in a damp environment.

The ComPac 16 is a fantastic boat. My father owned one right around 1981. Congratulations.

The post is really close to the cabin roof edge, from a video on Youtube:

I am used to my boat where the post is much more in the center of the span of the cabin roof.
