What is the difference? Gray Marine 6-71.... Detroit Diesel 6-71??
Is one better, more economical to operate, rebuild, etc.?

Thanks. How curious. Were they before the DD marine diesels? They took a industrial DD & marineized it, then DD said "hey we can do that too"? Different paint color is all?
    Thanks again.

    detroit 6-71

In reply to posts on the "grey marine"
very very briefly.....it's been a long and torturous journey.
    put into service approx 1938
during the war years 1942 onwards the marine version was called grey marine 6-71
after the war it was called the general motors diesel 6-71
approx 1958 it was called detroit diesel 6-71 ,and is up to the present day
this engine and it's smaller and larger brothers was a milestone in diesel engine development.
as a small aside ,for australian viewers this engine was manufactured at the general motors plant at fishermans bend ,during the war years and in fact was the first engine block cast at that facility ,predating the holden by many years ,this engine has been marizined by many companies in the usa over many years .......cheers now .
