FWIW, We've done two conversions like described/proposed by OP, except that neither of the brackets we built were extensions of the hull bottom; both were above the bottom edge by at least 6".
Both boats were 26' fiberglass V-hulls...the one a Parker and I've forgotten the other. In the case of the Parker, we removed a Mercruiser 250 diesel I/O and put a 300HP outboard on teh bracket which had a 36" setback distance. Huge improvement in top speed and the vessel rides well in all sea conditions.

The second was a similar bracket but replacing a Volvo I/O - 270 HP Ford V-8. Boat was faster with the 200HP outboard but the owner gained some reliability, fuel economy and more working deck space; important to him since he's a commercial waterman working that boat.

We've also built quite a few brackets for commercial waterman to mount on boats in 22-26' range that originally had their outboards mounted on the transom. To increase their freeboard (closing up the original transom cutout) as well as increasing working deck area.

Finally, my favorite bracket conversion involved removing two Volvo 140 straight inboards in a 25' Rampone and mounting a pair of 150 Yamahas on a stern bracket. Bot handing was unaffected but the top speed increased from 28 knots to just shy of 40!

    Pic of typical bracket attached.

    Mitch,

What kind of time span are we looking at here?
    (i.e. When?)
Do you have a completion date or any deadline you're working to?
    Spring?

    Spring!
Nice not to have any other constraints.
A lot of guys are restricted by shop time, finances, wives, etc, etc, etc.

Out of curiosity; how long have you been planning/researching this?

No real constraints here other than fishing takes precedent over working on the boat some times.

I got this boat last spring so I've been researching the bracket since about then. Have designes a couple other brackets floor buddies with similar boats and they've all come out good so far
