Hello Harley Guys!


Sharper! Your boat is going to be fantastic! I can’t wait to hear that it is finally in the water. The quality of your hull mods, paint, and rigging is beyond me! Pizza, I’m glad to see that you are doing your best to wear out those big CAT Engines! LOL. And raising fish. That is what most Harleys were built to do!

I have been putting a few miles on mine too this year. Mostly on the Columbia River. The odometer says about 2,500 year to date! I will reset it on 1/1, and try to do better in 2022. No real engine or drive issues that I can think of, so not too shabby for the old girl.

I did install a new A/P system. I stayed with Garmin because I know how to use it, and everything else on the boat is the same brand, and it is easy to update the software for all Garmin components at the same time from an app on my phone.

I’m using a steering manifold this time instead of a 12v pump. I never have been happy with the pump system. I think the root of the problem is that Arneson needs fairly high pressure to steer the boat, and the pump was not up to the task. Also, since my boat has gas engines, it is EXTREMELY light weight! And the wind can make the boat a bear to steer at higher speeds. Where as the manifold receives pressure directly from P/S pump. I had to turn the volume down on the manifold on the first seatrial, because the drives were wiggling back and forth way too fast. They looked like a tuna out of water! LOL.

In the past I have used Garmin’s “Virtual” rudder feedback, and have not been confident in it’s performance. This required installing an actual rudder feedback sensor using a custom-made control cable with one end attached to steering ram, and the other end attached to sensor that is located in engine room. So far so good!

The stern thruster is great! Looking back, I should have installed the next size up, but it still works fine for 99 percent the situations I need it for.

Hi Guys,, We need some Harley updates! Steve U R looking good, but it would be nice to see what others are up to. We just finished a rebuild on Arnesons. New U joints-Seals-Boots-Clamps-Balance drive shafts-etc.
K-Planes got refreshed as well. One new cylinder, hose, etc. Since we blasted the drives down to bare metal (soda blast). We did 4 coats of epoxy primer and 4 coats Tri-Lux 33
If any body wants more pics or info on Arneson work, let me know.

I'm trying hard to become part of the cool club... But anyway, I'm still looking for a set of spare props. I'm running 42 Harley running gear on a 42 Wellcraft Excalibur. 23x36p France Helices 4 blade round ear. But I could use anything close as a spare. Let me know if you guys come across anything. Thanks!

 

What is prop shaft diameter, and how many splines?

I hope everyone has been using the heck out of their boats this year. Despite the gas prices, I have been putting some miles on mine this season, and it is running great!
We finished all annual maintenance for mains and genset including: oil, filters, drive fluid, trans service, pwr steering flush, coolant flush, and raw water impellers. Also, we cut open
oil filters, and performed leak down test for both engines, all good! Engines have around 500 hours or so, and fully expect to 1,000 plus before any major work needed.

Things have been a littlte crazy in Ft Myers now. The boats are ok but lots of property damage. I was just about to paint the cocpit. Ill get back to itsoon

 

Great to see you guys in action Shaun and Steve. Shaun, the work is fantastic, now that I am retired I would offer to come and help, but my skills are sub-par compared to yours.
We had a good season, about 1200 miles, some nice trips with wife and some fishing too. Boat ran great all summer. Last year we rebuilt the Arnesons. This winter we haver torn down the
Cats, service the aftercoolers and Heat Xchngers, plus belts, hoses, batteries, filters, zincs, paint job, etc. Were hoping to take her to Fla in 2023, but might just take our Mako instead.
Accomadations and fuel are so difficult to deal with.
