I sure hope it’s going to be built better although it’s looking iffy right now , I keep asking the right questions at the wrong time. If I’d asked this question before I tabbed them in I’d have been better off. Although I’m pretty sure I did discuss something along theses lines and it was suggested that doing full up and over layers can be difficult for a beginner and working alone so maybe I’m being a little hard on myself.

I guess the question now if how do I adjust RX’s illustrations to my situation. I have done the staggered tabbing shown in my drawing so what am I concerned with in capping the stringers? Am I trying to match the thickness of the tabbing or tabbing and the glass on the side of the stringers?

Jason, do you have a picture of the situation or some rough dimensions of your new stringers and tabbing? Is this on the Radon? Those were much deeper than wide, yes?

Yep, the Radon. New stringers are 2-1/4”x8”, a bit massive but inline with what other rebuilds have done (a 1/4” wider). 4 layers of 1708 on each side, four layers of 1708 tabbing offset by an 1” each But no glass over the top

so when I cap it and I looking for 4 or 8 layers? Match the tabbing or the tabbing plus the side laminate.

So there are 4 layers on each tall side of stringers and 4 more layers tabbing at the hull?

If that is wood, then just tabbing on the side will do. It is already structural. Just hope you did not forget to bed it in thickened epoxy.

That is a built up form, not solid wood. You need to tab all over. Form can be anything. Foam, cardboard, built up ply, preformed fiberglass. It needs complete layup. You can layers at the top and sides. You will have a bulge at the web. It is ugly but there is nothing you can do.

Yes, glass all over is the plan. I’m not exactly sure what you are saying is the problem?

You tab 4 layers at the side. That is already thick. Then you are glassing over it again? In practice, tab only once just to hold it in place. Even CSM will do. Then glass all over with biax.
