I bought this material along with some 17oz biax from a surplus supplier. I was thinking of using it for stringers to reduce unsupported panel widths. Does anyone have experience with this type of cloth? It's very supple. I believe it's manufactured by hexcel. I attached a picture of the cloth and tag. A web search turned up nothing. Any thoughts on suitability for longitudinal stringers? I'm going to contact hexcel today and see if they have any information. Thanks.

What type of construction will you be covering? Is this a wood boat and you're encapsulating the wooden stringer using epoxy, or are you rebuilding a stringer in a fiberglass boat with polyester resin.

It's pvc cored construction. New build. The stringers are called for anywhere the unsupported panel width is over 20". I attached the info provided by Ed. Thanks. PXL_20221008_153719006.jpg

Called Hexcel and they confirmed it is 10oz uni with 2.5 oz in a harness weave. They don't have a data sheet for it. It's also pretty old. They have a pretty good fabrics handbook but the guide doesn't list a shelf life but does mention it. It was properly stored in a warehouse and isn't stiff or discolored. Is there a way to field test it to be sure it's useable?

The Style 525 isn't in my old database. How is the Uni connected to the harness satin weave? Is it woven into the satin weave? Stitched?

We can find the corresponding directional strength. Maybe.

That means it is a uni woven with transversal fabric in harness weave. Basically a WR but with enhanced properties in the Uni or 0 direction. An unbalanced WR.

No, you cannot use it in stringers. You need biax for the stringers as the web of the stringers are in shear and biax is very good in shear. Something in the order of 1.8 to 2.5 times the strength in the longitudinal direction.

Webs are like the diagonals in a bridge structure.

Thanks so much. I've got plenty of biax.

Looks like there is an answer to Scuff's question but I am hoping to understand the weave.

-Is it something like this, with the horizontal/gray being 10oz and the vertical/white being 2.5 oz?
-For the sake of figuring, perhaps with Vectorlam, could it be looked at as 1 layer 10oz uni 0 degrees and 1 layer 2.5oz uni 90 degrees?
