How can rainwater go where seawater cannot?

Obviously, saltwater is worse.

But rainwater becomes acidic when it mixes with crud like dirt and still corrosive.

Building a splashwell today.

 

So the fuel pickup opening is under the plywood floor of the splashwell so I'd like to relocate it, and add a second pickup for future use. I'm looking at bulkhead fittings. Anyone done anything like this?

I'd prefer to put a 2" pvc tube through the bulkhead and glue it in with black mamba fhg, then you only need access as required at the tank and at the fuel filter, not both sides of the BH, and the line can ride instead of having 4 xtra clamps

 

How does that relocate the fuel pickup in the top of the tank?

 

The pickup here would preclude having a splashwell.

Moreover, you need a fuel filter/water separator. So, you really need to find a way to create some space, perhaps your love affair with the cockpit is coming up against function a bit here...no?

If you build up, then what? Like can you elbow under the well and turn outboard away from the engine to the separator and come back to it?

Then access could be a deck plate in the well, or a small vertical access panel.

I see that, just don't like having a penetration in the deck at the lowest point. Infallibly sealing the deck to the tank isn't something I want to bet on. I also don't want it someplace it might get hit or stepped on.

 

Access is required on all fuel tank fittings, so you have to create a means.. I have seen deck plates inside the splashwells even on 80k Lund boats from a year ago. So, they trust them to stay dry. If you angle the well, offset the access some, that'd help. But if you ever need to pull the pickup or tank, fun eh?

 

Otherwise, you could one piece the entire splashwell and cleat it on and make the whole thing removable to meet the rule?

 

Can you have your aluminum welder move your penetrations/fittings to where you want/need them?
