The battery shell is made of petrochemicals.

That is insane! It is amazing those batteries are even affordable. How many people are employed just to build one EV car battery? Can the economy even afford to lay off those workers, if we shut the EV industry down?

And, what happens to all the parts of the Earth's crust that doesn't go into the battery? Clearly cars don't weight 500,000 lbs.

Wow, do you have a source on these numbers? By the way, my wind turbine only has two bearings, and they are lubricated for their predicted life of about 15 years. It has no transmission either.

In an attempt to get the overall true picture, you have to remember all the energy which goes into making the batteries.
Car body and systems should be about the same.
How much diesel is used in the mining and shipping of lithium, etc?
    I certainly don't know.
But I wish we had honest numbers.
Agreeing with Will on reported statistics.

    Hoytedow,

    I'm pretty slow but 30K (cobalt) + 5k (nickel) + 30K (copper) = 60k of the earths crust, not 500k.

    What's that about statistics???

    It's a random picture. I didn't create it. I just shared it.

Am I the only one who can recognize a joke?
    What is the WEF anyway?
It's not much of a joke that 180' blades cannot be recycled, except in computer generated fantasy pictures (the slave huts).
Actually I don't understand the need for shielding bicycle racks - never seen it done before. Looks like somebody needing to make a political statement, even if the solution is useless.
But look on the positive side, those nice smooth large surfaces are within easy reach of graffiti artists. Perhaps this is actually encouragement for budding artists.

It was my aim to show how wind turbine blades can be reused using pictures. While the concept of "picture thread" seems to have been abandoned temporarily:

The newest Siemens blades can be recycled back into the individual components of the composite:

Revolutionary RecyclableBlades: Siemens Gamesa technology goes full-circle at RWE’s Kaskasi offshore wind power project https://www.siemensgamesa.com/en-int/newsroom/2022/07/080122-siemens-gamesa-press-release-recycle-wind-blade-offshore-kaskasi-germany

But that's kind of hard to communicate in pictures alone.

With the examples of more or less complete blades given in the pictures it shouldn't take a lot of an engineers imagination to realize wind turbine blades offer a lot of other opportunities as structural components. Those blades are designed to handle quite extreme dynamic loads. There's a lot of structural strength left in them after their functional life as a blade so they can be useful in static constructions, the pictures are only an example of what is possible.

Hoytedow started using this thread to spread disinformation about battery electric vehicles and wind energy. I don't see why I shouldn't post pictures laying bare those lies.

    This picture:

is mostly based on the outcome of this study:

EEA report confirms: electric cars are better for climate and air quality https://www.eea.europa.eu/highlights/eea-report-confirms-electric-cars

It's one of the most thorough and comprehensive studies available on the subject. Impact of mining and shipping of raw material is included, as indicated already in the lines at the bottom of the picture.
