The hype nature of the video communications and the fact that the only solid numbers given are the fundraising dollars make me suspicious. I judge the Yamaha rim drive to be more advanced simply for it's proportions. It has greater
    -blade area/frontal projected area
    -blade area/total surface area
    -jetted area/(total frontal area-jetted area)

If you were designing one of these rim drives to operate up at cavitation speeds, wouldn't you have sharp edges for release rather than the smooth of this drive?

Don't believe the hype. Nothing is going to be a breakthrough for electric boats until the laws of physics change, and you can make a battery that is comparable to a fuel tank.
