    Temporary cabin sole complete. And a console to mount bits on.

    Canada TP1332

    7.3.4.3 Deck fill plates:

    1. shall be located at least 380 mm (15 in ) from any fresh air intake for gasoline systems;
    2. shall not permit a fuel overflow to enter the vessel; and This means that the deck fill plate must not be within the confines of the gunwales. If you need to have a survey for insurance purposes, a competent surveyor will more than likely not pass a deck fill that is inside the gunwales

    7.3.4.6 The minimum inside diameter of the fill system shall be 32 mm (1 1/4 in ). In order to maintain the minimum diameter, the minimum hose ID using standard fittings shall be 38 mm (1 1/2 in ).
    If you are having a custom tank build and if the fill line is long and/or with a lot of bends, opt for a 2 inch id hose. It is sometimes hard to find deck hardware with the deck plate stating "GASOLINE" with the 2 inch id

    7.3.4.8 Every hose clamp used in a tank fill system shall: Ensure that the screw as well as the band is stainless
    1. be used with a hose that is designed for clamps;
    2. have a minimum nominal band width of 12 mm (1/2 in );
    3. fasten over the hose and the spud, pipe, or hose fitting; and
    4. be installed not less than 12 mm (1/2 in ) from the end of the hose.

    7.3.5 Ventilation of Fixed Fuel Tanks
    7.3.5.1 The fuel tank venting system shall:

    1. discharge fuel vapours overboard;
    2. not allow a fuel overflow to enter the vessel
    7.3.5.2 The flexible vent pipe shall be:
    1. a minimum of 15 mm (5/8 in ) inside diameter. It is critical that the vent line path does not allow a low spot where fuel can lie, effectively cutting off the easy air venting when filling the tank to permit fast filling of a tank and less blowback through the fill deck plate. (unless the fill line is short and relatively straight)
    With respect to the fittings that you will be screwing into the aluminum tank,
    Stainless fittings are allowed. You can find fittings, 90's and straights that have an extra long spud to be able to attach 2 clamps. The two clamps on the fill hose are required BUT for the small increase in cost, I would go with
    the longer spud to allow 2 clamps on all vent and draw lines. If you insert a stainless fitting into an aluminum collar/scully flange etc, you normally get one shot at it as the aluminum will MOST OFTEN gall if you have to remove it.
    When we built our tanks, we would weld in the next size up aluminum collar and install a stainless reducing bushing. Ie it went in and stayed forever. Into this reducing bushing would be the hose fitting of the appropriate size.
    This allowed us to be able to remove the hose fitting leaving the reducing bushing in place. To reduce galling between the reducing bushing and the hose fitting, we would use only 316 fittings and lube the threads when
    making up a connection.

    I trust this is something you've covered with your surveyor already...?

    You may want to give him a call.
    Many workboat jobs require proof of insurance.
    If gasoline boats don't qualify, then no need to jump through Transport Canada's hoops and hurdles.
    Just make the boat safe.
    Gasoline fumes that spill from the fill tube while fueling will pool as they are considerably heavier than air.
    They need a way off the boat.
    It is critical they do not make their way inside the boat, ever, through an open door for example.
    Not even once.
    A failsafe could be designed into the door that inhibits filling without the door fully closed.

    However, I would suggest you sort this out with your surveyor.

    Is this boat ever going to carry PAYING passengers or doing work for hire? I am not sure of the designation but passenger vessels require an enhanced certification process and I understand that the surveyor has to sign of
    particular parameters of a build.

    It might. At the moment I'm extremely busy installing heat pumps and HRV systems, so Serenity isn't going to be working right away. Eventually probably.

    One thing I always bear in mind is that I'm a carpenter, specializing in difficult renovations. So I'm not shy about making changes with a chainsaw. That's a little dramatic, but something that isn't right now, also isn't permanent. That being said, it isn't smart to do anything twice. I'll do a proper job on the fuel, I just wanted to be able to fuel up under cover, instead of standing in the rain, with the typical Vancouver monsoon rains going into the fuel tank.

    Got the throttle/shifter in. Like I'd previously mentioned, this was about half the kit. I bought some SS parts from a local vender, and got it functioning.
    Unfortunately I ordered a Seastar front mount basic pump. What was delivered - for a thousand bucks more- was a seastar pro rear mount 5 position tilt steering pump. Even if I didn't need the money for other things I don't have the space behind the dashboard. I've got about 4", not 12". Poop

    I am sorry to tell you, but console clearance is essential. I'd get out the chainsaw and use some internal volume.

    My greatest console regret is not having enough space behind it. Everything was forced downwards..see that custom fixture for the wheel? That is what happens when you want the wheel to be vertical, but don't have tilt.

    See the displays? All rather low. The main switches are at my knees. This console is about 40" square.

    Really kickass helm stations have flat tops as well.

    When you have to crawl under there to wire; you also need access. This station is fairly ugly, but they have access. I have to walk though a building and open a service panel for mine.

    The flat top allows a space for future mfd or vhf or easier mods.
