Bending Strength Of Aluminum Vs Wood?

    If you are comparing an aluminum beam to a wooden beam, the properties should be based on weight rather than dimension. That is, unless there is some absolute restriction on the size.

    Op is concerned about head space. Deeper beams restrict head space too much.

    I think the OP needs to quantify what he thinks to much "springiness" is. In home construction the limit is L/360. That means that the deflection can't be more than 1/360th of the span.
