    Andrew Kirk Pedal boater.

I fully endorse Milehog's comment concerning time-tested methods. I tried 4 different radical propulsion systems for my pedal powered dinghy before trying and succeeding with something obvious. I intend to build a sail assisted human powered boat this year and will use pedal power again. My dinghy must be twice as fast as rowing and I'm facing the right way. It isn't suitable to add a sail so I'm going to build a composite catamaran.
