Power to tow vs. power to propel

The arrow distance world record with a longbow is around three times the world record casting distance. Probably would need a side-by-side comparison with an arrow pulling the fishing line to get an idea about it? One of the arrow record holders indicated that 90% of his efforts were focused on fine tuning the Arrow Part. The arrow distance record with a footbow is over a mile, but if a certain Target must be hit on a winding River, the extra distance might not be of any use, since someone might not be able to see the target or avoid the curves? With a bow and arrow system, a separate system would be required to maximize the pull Force and reel in, plus neatly store the thin strong line which might cut- if hand retrieval is used...

A Google search Turned Up some hollow micro grappling hooks down to 0.5 Oz which can be filled with sand or water to increase weight as needed. They are sometimes used with a fishing rod launcher to clear trip wires and electrical wires associated with IED devices in war zones!

 

I've been struggling to get any real numbers on it. The calculators I can find for arrow range are made more much lighter arrow weight, around 77 grams. I was thinking around a full kilo. (1200 grains/2.2 lbs). I think this is going to be one of those things I'm just going to have to experiment with.

A hook as heavy as a kilo would be launched with a crossbow. And I don't think repeatedly shooting a crossbow on a public waterway is going to get you anywhere at a reasonable speed, other than jail.

 

My thinking is it could be done with much less Massive projectile if you use something with deployable folding or smaller deployed strong grapple fingers. Lots of stout tree limbs to aim for and get easily get tangled in for travelling an Upstream river scenario. Most of the places I go, there is nobody else around during my visit. Arrow recovery could be done with a very lightweight and compact telescoping 20+-foot Pole, after the line directly below is cut. I already use a pole like that to get free fishing lures which are abandoned in the tree canopy by kayak fisherman, haha....

 

Learning how to pole a boat may be cheaper and less complicated.

Thanks for the very creative germs for ideas, guys! There is also a YouTube video I ran across, of a guy that has built a Spider-Man metal sleeve which shoots out a small grappling hook for maybe 30 yd, haha! One never knows what might turn out to be useful!

JMHO, but even expert Poling probably wouldn't work going Upstream on many of the fast River Rapids that I have seen. Lots of ground might be lost each time the pole is repositioned, and steering any small light boat in FRR from a single Pivot Point position might be Twitchy, to say the least. At least with a cable anchored Upstream there can be a mechanism on the kayak that locks the cable, so that no drifting backwards occurs-if a rest is needed. Presently Portage by land is used on some FRR, (Vikings did similar things for obstacles centuries ago), and the lighter the Pac boat, the easier portage is to do, haha!
