Thanks for the reply! So.. Quick update. 5 Air cylinders used to pressurize the fire suppression lines and all extraneous nonsense has been removed.
The massive stainless steel lift bars have been unbolted, but I need a chain-fall to hoist them out. The side "seats" that form an L on the hull are filled with foam for buoyancy have been left. These will either be removed where required or left in place and and have storage spaces cut into them with waterproof covers. The bilge is under the remaining floor panels. With new cover panels installed, it will have 6'6" headroom about which is pretty decent. Thanks for your advice, marine grade sanded plywood it is with tile on top for the floor. boat2.jpg

Hey DouglasM - What boat yard in Wilmington did you choose? I bought the last lifeboat from Bragg and haven't moved it yet. --Dave

Good timing! I just spent 2 days getting back down to NC from Vermont via PA where I picked up a bunch of stuff at auction to build the wheelhouse. Arrived tonight. I originally had the truck deliver to Smith Creek, but there was no way to get the truck in to unload. I ended up across the river at Cape Fear boatyard. Bigger facility but not quite as many services for the DIY crowd. The owner Sam is great, and they are reasonable. $300 a month. Will post more pictures and details.
If anyone else has bought the same model from GovPlanet, I was able to get a couple of hundred pages of .pdf files for all the documentation that came with the boat in English. The Sabb engine manuals are crucial.
    Regards,
    Doug

Doug - funny about the location. Cape Fear is where I was thinking of placing mine also. We’re checking it out Thursday to make sure it’s a fit. I’m not sure how to send you my contact info here (and I don’t a way to msg you directly) but maybe it would be interesting or competitive to work on the boats in the same area. And I’m definitely interested in the manuals. I’ll follow up with Sam at the boatyard so maybe I’ll catch up with you there. Looks like you are moving along quickly on your project!

Fallguy... to answer your post in the other thread, the diesel fuel tank is located about 10’ from stern center mounted. The fill cap is in the enclosure and needs to be rerouted externally. I am going to guess 300-350 gals. Will verify.

Excellent. I’ll find you sometime in the early afternoon at the Basin Rd location (hopefully that’s it). Looking forward to meeting another person who would buy an old lifeboat. ;-p

Thanks for the tour of your build so far! It's a big project but after seeing your plans, there's so much potential in these lifeboats. Looking forward to parking my boat next to yours for the building process! Lifeboat Twins! ;-p

Eek I forgot about this thread (and got busy in the boat yard!) but great to see someone else jumped in with their project :) WAY up-thread I was talking about our 30' lifeboat we bought from BC Ferries in 2020. We're splashing on Wednesday with a good chunk of the exterior work complete (photo below is from today) and will be shifting to the majority of the interior refit over this winter and next year. If anyone's still curious, I'm happy to answer questions!

Congratulations daniTS - she is coming along very nicely!
Are you happy to post some more photos of her, including the interior?
(I do realise that the interior re-fit is on-going and that you might not be too keen on posting photos just yet).
