In the Great Lakes that is called to "steel over" the boat.

Thanks for the picture and terminology lesson.

A link to another fish tug website:

I added 8 inches (20cm) headroom, a Chevy 350, and a couple me-sized mannequins to the model. I have an old RV with this engine so it was on my mind. I am hoping to get some CAD data for a marine diesel and transmission to replace in the model. I am also hoping to get some time off work to go on a field trip to look at these boats in more detail.

I like this video. In my early 20's I had a job of running a CNC plasma cutter and doing some welding so I find it interesting and relaxing all at the same time...nothing like watching other people work! :)

Just remember that cut plate framing like that is too labor intense for the 1940's era. I'd expect bulb-T and flat bar frames in that era.

For sure, thanks, not period-correct. I just wanted to stick in a piece that looked like the frames from the Gustav video. If all goes well I will be seeing boats in person in 2-3 weeks.

Your model looks great! Nice work.

I have a good friend who's son is working on a Lake Michigan fish tug and wants to build a model of a fish tug for him. Can you share where you got the line drawings for your model?

    Thank you

    Thanks Jeff.

I worked with the Wisconsin Maritime Museum to get a couple copies of blueprints for a fish tug. The images were a little muted ( pink and purple jpegs of old blue line prints) but enough to see the general scheme. There was a nominal fee for the files.
