What’s the beam on your 10’ cat plans and what sort of horsepower rating are they giving?

    Jollymon,
    I don't have a direct comparison.
I wanted to compare to "Glider" by Mark Gumprect on Duckworks.com.
    Glider Free Plans https://duckworks.com/glider-plans/
Unfortunately, there is no claimed weight in the write-up.
I'll send an email to see if I can get the empty weight.

My experience is with kayak strip planked skins, which have 1/4" cedar core with 1 ply of 6oz glass inside and outside.
Difficult to compare since I don't know the area of skin on your boat.
However I think I could build kayak style at less than 100#.

I did build a rowing catamaran - 11', but it was very low freeboard, and more like a skull - minimal, for 1 person. 50# and I thought it was heavy.
The hulls were done kayak style. Again not a good comparison.

If I can get an answer I'll bring it back.

Well, that’s interesting you compare the glider since I built that boat. While it was fun to build it is a rowing catamaran by which its nature means very light weight. I used a 4 hp outboard on it and was cautioned by Chuck that he thought even a 10 hp outboard would be too much for it. The Glider is a 11’10” rowing catamaran with a 3’6” beam. It is designed to be rowed or powered by a small outboard in protected waters.

The AST tenders are alarmingly similar to the OC tender, and 85 lbs is truly impressive. However, it’s not a catamaran design, its dimensions are smaller, and I’d expect they’re produced using vacuum bagging technology(something I just wasn’t getting into for this one). I’m sure there’s some fat that could be trimmed off this recent one I built, but it’s not an issue for me

I didn’t build strictly to the plans. I raised the freeboard, carried the full beam of hulls all the way astern, widened tunnel top and increased to 1/2” marine ply for tunnnel top and I can’t remember what else. It was also built of wood glassed over. 165lbs if memory serves.

What was your laminate over the core?

If you tracked epoxy use; you would have saved maybe 25% by going with vac.

We didn't mean to be critical, but when carbon is used; sort of expect lighter builds.

What is the l/b? 12'/1.5" is 8, but you are in a tricky spot to build one foot hulls and then a four foot seat. My hunch is your l/b is maybe as low as 6? It is really only conversational.

Laminate over the core . Yes? Not sure I understand the question. Not sure how else to apply. But anyway, it’s amazing how much you learn as you go along. Tricks and techniques to do things better or faster etc. The idea here is that we all come together with different backgrounds, expectations, education and experience. If I can learn something or just go thru the crucible of questions I’m better off for it . I do thank you and the others for your thoughts.

Length is 11.5’ and hull beam max is 22” = 6.27. This one is super stable beam to beam and doesn’t pitch or hobby horse like the last one.
