I have a very nice mold for a 17 foot planing dinghy that I have been trying to sell (cheap). No takers so far and I really want to free up space in my shop.

Can anyone recommend a Boat Building School or similar Educational Program that would benefit from the donation of a mold they could use to teach fiberglass/composites building methods? I'm keen to donate the mold to a worthy cause if I can find the interest. I only know of schools and programs that focus on wooden boat building, so I need some direction on where to find possible interest for a fiberglass/composite program.

The mold is located in southern California. Its easy to transport inside a standard box van or flat trailer. It's 17.5 feet long, max 7.5 feet wide, its on caster wheels, and probably weighs about 400 pounds. I would prefer to not personally incur any transportation costs but I would be willing to help as much as possible to get it where it needs to go.

The boat building schools which I'm aware of which teach fiberglass/composite boat building include mold making as part of the curriculm, and usually have plenty of molds available.

Can you tell me who/where they are? Even if they have plenty of molds, they might be interested in a different type/design that they may not already have, never hurts to ask.

The ones I know of are a community college in Seattle, IYRS in Rhode Island and Landing School in Maine.

A bit closer to you, in Cerritos CA, Cerritos College has a Plastics and Composites Manufacturing Course. Many years ago (1985 or 6) I took a course there in Fiberglass layup. I checked their website and they still have the Plastics and Composites course, so it's worth a phone call or email. Cerritos College - Courses https://www.cerritos.edu/plastics/courses.htm If not nothing lost.
