Porpoising and or oscillating pitching might be computer automated controlled I'm guessing. Go to their website and poke around, looks to have some rather large flaps at the rear underside.

I'm not a movie critic but I did enjoy the movie.

 

I worked with a senior structural designer who's first engineering job was initial design on the PBY.
He was often irritated and discouraged with modern design tools, methods, and limits.
Nice guy, I was sad to see him retire 20 years ago.
