shakespeare shadow

can anyone help i am trying to find some info on a boat called the shadow it was i believe made by a company called shakespeare in england the one i am interested in has a 2ltr 4 stroke sterndrive engine 120bhp fitted to it also can anyone tell me are sterndrives reliable as i have heard they are costly to replace any help would great in trying to track down this make of boat

 

I had a Shadow in England in the 80's it was 18 foot with a Mercruiser 228 with a V8. It had a exeptionaly nicely upholstered interior with built in radio etc. It was a very heavy boat on a 4 wheel trailer and porpoised like crazy unless the forward fuel tank was full.-
It was called a Black Shadow. I saw another one day that was White,--it was called a White Shadow.

I never knew who actually made it, it seemd American but was not. I doubt if it was a Shakespeare.

no mine is a shadow i have managed to track a picture of the boat down mine is this boat but in blue and white

 

mmm thats certainly not like I had. If that were the Shadow I had you would not be able to see the shed behind it.

Certainly looks Shakespeareish, sorry cant help then.

Shakespeare Shadow were standard equiped with Mercruiser 120 or 140 hp.

This is highly amusing. The pic you managed to locate is of my Shakespeare Shadow.
The sterndrive on these are OK for the Mercruiser140 it is equipped with.
The boat is extremely fun.

14 years later...I saw this post on Google and decided to reply to it.

I have a 1976 Shakespeare Shadow, I'll happily share some pics.

Its the 140 Mercruiser (Stern Drive), not the 120.

Its a super smooth ride in rough conditions, which really surprised me.

It does 35 - 40mph.

The original colour was a beige (see catalog photo), so 70's haha, but its been changed to White. It now has hydraulic steering also.

New upholstery 3 years ago, white rubber trim added to windscreen this year as the chrome trim it had was leaking a strange type of glue.

The spoiler caused controversy in the 70's, a lot of people thought it looked a bit 'rude boy', but I like it, it adds character.

Waterski boat, quiet when in the water, but have also done some fishing from it as well.

The engine was replaced a couple of years ago as it was stolen...yeah stolen while it was moored up for the night in Southampton.

53 litre tank, needs Redex additive to the fuel.

Great fun little boat! Loves a banked turn. Not super spacious though, and it sits so low that my 6ft tall mates struggle with the steering wheel where it is.

Service is around £550.
