Put an edge back on the bottom after rounding it off for the fiberglass tape installation.

If your goal is to plane with very little power, the first goal is to keep the weigh as low as possible. All that contraption on the stern is doing the opposite. The hull will get more speed with the transom moved to the back and all the rest of the plywood removed. If you want reserve buoyancy in case the boat gets swamped, nothing will be lighter or safer than some styrofoam blocks strapped to the boat.

I don't think he is going to make that alteration at this stage, but getting full steering range seems problematical, outboards swivel 35 degrees both ways, I think, and that is only if nothing gets in the way, this one looks compromised.

True in theory, however what is faster? low HP boat with a aft CG that cannot get onto the plane, or a slightly heavier low HP boat on the plane..?
    Every change is a compromise.

A light boat with the same bottom shape will be faster.

Nice statement... If you can be bothered reading and answering my question, It will help with your confusion as to the contraption hanging off the stern.

I did read it. You are not following the SOR. For example, to make it safer for 2 adults and 2 children a proven type of boat instead of an experiment should be the goal. Another of your stated requirement was ease of built, which all these untested complications are the opposite of. I understand your attachment to the boat you started building. However, it is a poor design that does not fulfill your SOR.

Twenty layer lay up that may break off with to much side load, but will give it a try.
Can always replace it later down the track.

She is a thing of beauty.

So, what do you think, now that you've felt her perform?

Would you do it this way again? Would you recommend it to a friend?
